No come\u00e7o da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/03744a.htm\">Igreja<\/a> nenhum of\u00edcio ou dia especial foi designado \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/15047a.htm\">Sant\u00edssima Trindade<\/a>. Quando a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/01707c.htm\">heresia ariana<\/a> se espalhou os Padres prepararam um of\u00edcio com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/03301a.htm\">c\u00e2nticos<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/12787a.htm\">respostas<\/a>, um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/12384a.htm\">Pref\u00e1cio<\/a>, e <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/07595a.htm\">hinos<\/a>, a serem recitados aos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/14335a.htm\">domingos<\/a>. No Sacrament\u00e1rio de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06780a.htm\">S. Greg\u00f3rio Magno<\/a> (P.L., LXXVIII, 116) h\u00e1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/12345b.htm\">ora\u00e7\u00f5es<\/a> e um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/12384a.htm\">Pref\u00e1cio<\/a> da Trindade. As Micrologias (P.L., CLI, 1020), escritas durante o pontificado de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06791c.htm\">Greg\u00f3rio VII<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/11078a.htm\">Nilles<\/a>, II, 460), chamam o <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/14335a.htm\">domingo<\/a> posterior a Pentecostes de um <em>Dominica vacans (um domingo vago)<\/em>, sem qualquer of\u00edcio especial, mas acrescenta que em alguns lugares eles recitavam o Of\u00edcio da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/15047a.htm\">Sant\u00edssima Trindade<\/a> composto pelo bispo Est\u00eav\u00e3o de Li\u00e8ge (903-20). Por outros o of\u00edcio era rezado no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/14335a.htm\">domingo<\/a> anterior ao <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/01165a.htm\">Advento<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/01286a.htm\">Alexandre II<\/a>\u00a0(1061-1073), n\u00e3o o <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/01287a.htm\">III<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/11078a.htm\">Nilles<\/a>, 1. c.), recusou uma <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/11777a.htm\">peti\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a> por um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06021b.htm\">festejo<\/a> especial alegando que tal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06021b.htm\">festa<\/a> n\u00e3o era um costume na <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/07424b.htm\">Igreja Romana<\/a> a qual diariamente <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/07462a.htm\">honrava<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/15047a.htm\">Sant\u00edssima Trindade<\/a> atrav\u00e9s do Gl\u00f3ria ao Pai, etc., mas ele n\u00e3o proibiu a celebra\u00e7\u00e3o onde ela j\u00e1 existisse. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/08431a.htm\">Jo\u00e3o XXII<\/a> (1316-1334) ordenou a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06021b.htm\">festa<\/a> para toda a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/03744a.htm\">Igreja<\/a> no primeiro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/14335a.htm\">domingo<\/a> ap\u00f3s o Pentecostes. Um novo of\u00edcio foi feito pelo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06217a.htm\">franciscano<\/a> John Peckham, C\u00f4nego de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/09472a.htm\">Lyons<\/a>, mais tarde <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/01691a.htm\">Arcebispo<\/a> de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/03299b.htm\">Canterbury<\/a> (m. 1292). A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06021b.htm\">festa<\/a>, que inicialmente era considerada de segunda classe foi elevada \u00e0 dignidade de uma festa principal, de primeira classe, em 24 de julho de 1911, por <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/12137a.htm\">Pio X<\/a> (Acta Ap. Sedis, III, 351). Os gregos n\u00e3o t\u00eam um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/06021b.htm\">festejo<\/a> especial.
